I actually saw another white person earlier 🙂

Nothing touristy here whatsoever which is fine; the countryside on the drive here was mundane and rural but also just revealed a ton about Morocco and the people here. Casablanca is entirely at odds with it, far more western in feel. It’s a generic big city except with comedy traffic and joyful food.

Everybody is nice here too. I did get stared at earlier by one guy but it was a three donkey town and it’s entirely possible he’s never seen a white person before.

Ah, the donkeys. Poor people here walk. If you’re well off you have a donkey. If you’re wealthy your donkey tows a small trap. I could judge the wealth of a town by donkey, horse or tractor – the area with good irrigation had horses and the occasional tractor; the unirrigated farmland was donkey only.

There were sheep and cows too, some chickens and a couple of blokes selling turkeys. The cows seem to graze on the crops and they use land they can’t plant on for sheep.

Only other animals you see are the occasional ownerless dog and a lot of cats. Every street in the cities seems to have a family of cats, and every food stall or butcher has at least one cat staring optimistically up at it. So cute.

Fes tomorrow..

Today’s Drive:

Tonight’s Hotel.

In Casablanca today.
