A day in the Atlantic

The first of two consecutive days at sea had little on the schedule that demanded my time. A frequent flyer lunch was the only reason to leave my cabin so I decided to grab coffee and go to one of the Microsoft sponsored events, one that taught people how to use MS Studio to process their photographs.

I took my tablet but we were working on class specified photos on the class devices. The shitty software wont even open my camera’s RAW files anyway.

Lunch was the Mariner’s invitational lunch. I fear I may have caused future issues for the ship’s captain, as he was greeting people as they entered the room. “Top o’ the morning, as they say in England,” he said.

I’d already said hi and thanked him for the welcome so was walking away at the time, but turned and just corrected him, “Ireland.”

He heard, took note, greeted the next people, “Top o’ the Island!”

I had the jerk chicken salad to start, an unusual choice for me.

It was quite nice. So was the main, described as Curry Beef but looking rather more like simple roast beef.

The company was pleasant too, a couple from Tennessee and a chatty couple from Manchester.

I skip dinner but go to the revised evening entertainment. They cancelled the dancing due to ‘illness’, which implies multiple members of the troop are down with something nasty, or maybe they just knew it was going to be somewhat choppy and delayed the show until smoother waters tomorrow.

The comedian was good, the audience laughing and enjoying the show. Sadly much of the material was again missing me completely; maybe in two decades I’d appreciate it more. But he had good timing and some good jokes, even if he just talked too much: the sort of Irishman you leave a bar to avoid.

Another film, the ship offering a range of on-demand options, then a final stroll before bed making me wish we’d been on board during the blood moon.

(No, I couldn’t take a non-blurred photo at night on a moving ship in the face of a strong wind with a mobile phone)

Distance walked today was bugger all. I’m gaining weight, those wafer rolls have done some damage, will need to cut back a bit if I want to fit in the seat for the flight home.
