The late start today meant I could happily go back to sleep after waking at 5am and get up at a leisurely 7.30 instead. By 8am I’d had two coffees and we still hadn’t anchored, leaving me impatient to start the day.
At 9.15am I decided to go and join the queue for a tender ticket, figuring it could take a while to get ashore. An hour later I got off on the jetty of a marina, several million pounds worth of yacht next to me, across from me, stacked up in rows beside me. This might be the most expensive marina I’ve seen since Monaco.
Airlie Beach has approximately nothing in it, except marinas, yachts, yachts for hire and boat trips. Fishing, snorkelling, admiring the prettiness of the Whitsundays.. nothing else. I guess that makes it a good stop for a cruise ship.
Technically it does have something else. A cafe with wifi, the password ‘bestcoffeeever’. It isn’t. The wifi is awesome though, I’ve uploaded over 50 images and included most of them in travelogue updates. Everything is now up to date!
It took me a couple of hours so I made sure I bought lunch there too. Pulled beef burger with chips.
I do like the way Australians cook their chips.
Lady sat behind me just told her friend she went into a bar, asked for their wifi password. “Buy a drink first.”
She bought a coke, asked again. “Buy a drink first. All lower case, no spaces.” I headed back to the ship.
